Remonumentation of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS)

The Dunn County Survey Division is responsible for the re-establishment, perpetuation and maintenance of the corners of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS).  Beginning in 1848 and concluding in 1852, eight US Deputy Surveyors surveyed all of Dunn County and placed wood posts at approximately ½ mile intervals to control the location of the boundary lines and legal description of every parcel of real estate in the county.

The latest Global Positioning System (GPS) technology is used to attain high accuracy coordinate data on the PLSS corners and on nearby reference monuments used as witnesses to the PLSS corner.
